The critical circle, or critical diameter as it is sometimes referred to as, is a circular area with a specified diameter that can be enclosed within the solid section or a part. This can be used to check if certain build styles need to be applied to a part for printing.
Please note that the critical circle need not be completely solid and can contain vents or slots. See Figure 3 and 4 below for examples.
For example, the SLA build style Large Flat should be used with selected materials if the part to be printed contains a critical circle greater than 2 inches (50 mm) in diameter. If the solid mass of the part to be printed can contain a circle with a diameter of 2 inches or more then this build style should be selected for the best printing result.
